"Grandma's Candy Dish" is an original cross stitch design by Brenda Gervais of With Thy Needle & Thread. The designer stitched the model on 36 count linen and the stitch count is 86 wide x 67 high.
GRANDMA'S CANDY DISH is Brenda's interpretation of the "bunny on a nest" candy dish. Growing up, we had a rabbit candy dish always filled with foil-wrapped chocolate eggs; those memories inspired that part of this design. As for the branch with the little eggs, my mother would gather the perfect lilac branch each Lent season and bring it indoors. She would spray it with white spray paint, place it in a recycled Cool Whip or coffee can container that she decorated, and secure it with some plaster of Paris. We then hung little painted wooden eggs upon the branches. It was our table decoration during the Easter season. It's funny how we think of things as we stitch... As I was stitching the egg-filled branches on this piece, I recalled the excitement of waiting for the lilac to sprout its green leaves from the warmth of the indoors. As a youngster, I thought it was so cool when our centerpiece grew leaves!
